Don't just rely on us. The more places you can get your shelter or rescue web site listed, the better. The ones I've listed below are all free to submit to or at least have a free submission option.
General Directories:
- dmoz: Open Directory Project (This is the single most important link you can get as it will greatly affect your Google ranking and feeds hundreds of other web directories. Do read and follow the directions so as not to get the DMOZ Death Sentence.)
- Yahoo: How to Suggest Your Site (This one is pretty important too.)
- GoGuides.org: How to Suggest a Site
- AbiLogic Web DirectoryBusiness Web Directory of quality family-friendly and spam-free sites organized by subject. Offering free and paid listings.
- JoeAnt.com: Suggest a Site
Shelter Directories:
- Hugs for Homeless Animals Worldwide Shelter Directory
- theanimalshelter.com
- ASPCA: National Shelter Directory
- World Animal Net: Animal Protection Society Update/Affiliation Form
Search Engines:
- Google: Information for Webmasters
- Scrub the Web: Add URL
Stay away from services that advertise bulk submissions to hundreds of search engines for free or for a fee. At best, using these will land you on hundreds of spam email lists. At worst, they will get your site banned from the legitimate search engines.
